Downtown's best street party is back this Friday with The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker and Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics bringing the soul to Downtown After 5, presented Harmony Motors. Taking place the third Friday of the month on North Lexington Avenue at I240, Downtown After 5 is always free.
Described as a well-rounded soul machine that takes very seriously its sacred mandate of carrying the torch of "real" soul music forward, The Dynamites continue their relentless commitment to the greatest, most positive and celebratory musical art form in America. With roots embedded in Georgia soul, Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics bring that 50's and 60's R&B sound to the Downtown After 5 stage.
A $2 wristband is required to purchase alcohol and August's nonprofit wristband partner is Asheville City Schools Foundation. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Asheville City Schools Foundation supports the students of the nine Asheville City Schools through volunteer academic coaching, after school programs, scholarships, emergency assistance to families in crisis, and grants for teachers.
