The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is getting ready to host its 17th Annual Art in Bloom, a multi-faceted event celebrating the beauty of art and flowers. This is one of the nonprofit community art center’s biggest fundraisers of the year.
Art in Bloom at BMCA includes: two gallery shows, 20 floral designers interpreting works of art on the entire upper level of the historic building, a preview party outside on the Arts Center’s three decks, a local self-guided garden tour, a variety of artists creating original work at each of the gardens, flower-themed workshops, and a gallery show of the plein air work.

On May 26, BMCA’s upper level will be filled with art from 20+ different local and regional artists. The artists were invited with inspiration in mind. This show is free to the public Monday-Friday, 10am through 5pm through June 14.

On Thursday, June 15, 20 talented and highly respected floral designers from the Ikebana traditions and Western flower arranging professions, will interpret the artwork in flowers. The results are spectacular. Later that evening from 5 to 6:30 p.m. a preview party takes place throughout BMCA’s three floors, offering ticket holders a first look at the awe-inspiring floral arrangements. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served and guest of honor, retired BMCA Executive Director Gale Jackson, will be celebrated for her contributions to this event and to the Arts Center for 20 years. Tickets to this preview party are $45.

On June 16 and 17, ticket holders can view the floral arrangements in the Upper Gallery, as well as tour six private gardens in Black Mountain. The price of a ticket to just see the arrangements is $5, and a garden tour ticket is $30 (which includes access to the gallery). Local and regional artists will be stationed at each stop along the tour creating art en plein air in each garden. The tour is available to ticket holders from 10am to 2pm
each day, and the gallery is open from 10am to 4pm. Following the garden tour, an exhibit of the artwork created that weekend is on display from June 23 through July 14. This show will kick off with an opening reception on June 23 from 5 to 6:30pm.

Throughout June there will be flower-themed workshops focused on nature journaling, felting, and watercoloring. There is something for everyone to enjoy at Art in Bloom, and much to celebrate including being
together and supporting the arts. Tickets and more information for Art in Bloom’s various events and workshops can be purchased at blackmountainarts.org/ArtinBloom or by calling 828.669.0930. Fans of flowers and art can attend every event
during the fundraiser with a discounted “Art in Bloom Everything Pass” for $65. The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is a nonprofit community art center located in the heart of downtown Black Mountain at 225 West State Street.
